CALMING THE CHAOS OF AGING
"Alzheimer's Loved Ones"

By Phyllis Slater

ACTIVITIES FOR ALZHEIMER’S LOVED ONES

Are you caring for someone who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease? If so, do you ever feel torn between pity and anger, between love and exasperation? Do you wonder how long you will be able to continue caring for your loved one before you have a nervous breakdown?

Now there are customized activities tailored to the needs of individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

This service is not a cure for all the behavioral problems associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Instead, the activities utilize logical and proven approaches to stimulate and enhance mental and physical capabilities in order to:

· Decrease mood swings and reinforce positive attitudes.

· Increase willingness to participate in activities.

· Return smiles and happiness, including to the caregivers and families.

Activities include but are not limited to:

· Music
· Arts and crafts
· Conversation stimulation
· Flower arrangements
· Outings
· Remembrance of past events
· Games and picture puzzles
· Food preparation
· Special entertainment

Your positive attitude is the greatest motivator and emotional healer for a person with Alzheimer’s disease.
